Solar energy, radiant light and heat from the sun, is harnessed using a range of ever-evolving technologies such as solar heating, solar photovoltaics, solar thermal electricity, solar architecture and artificial photosynthesis (Wikipedia, 2013) A solar panel is a set of solar photovoltaic modules electrically connected and mounted on a supporting structure (Wikipedia, 2013).Our project is about the use of solar energy as a supply to support electrical appliances in a household.It is said that we are nearing the state of energy shortage or crisis. Power cuts will be more common even in developed countries. There will be a high level of inconvenience. We may not be able to use electrical appliances such as lamps, air conditioner and even our television. In the future, engineers may opt to manufacture eco-friendly solar houses to conserve energy. Our team are trying to do the same by building an automated solar house that is eco-friendly. The Sun is the source of solar energy. Solar energy is harnessed by the ever-changing technology of solar panels.Automation is a major part of our project. Automation is the use of machines, control systems and information technologies to optimize productivity in the production of goods and delivery of services.(Wikipedia, 2013) We are planning to automate our window, turning on and off for the light and fans. So, is home automation actually necessary? Automated systems reduces the chance of errors which would lead to higher costs to maintain the system. Moreover, it can be purchased at a reasonable price and is easy to use. It can perform better than a non-automated home. Most importantly, it has improved security features and is energy saving (Emerson, Robert, 2013).
